Madam, - I must disagree with Liam Kennedy (June 22nd). Cohabitation is not a substitute for commitment.
Though oftentimes there may be considerable success, individual cases cannot reasonably establish the foundation of public policy.
More importantly, a child as a human being, is entitled to expect that both parents will support him or her for as long as that is necessary.
Only marriage is unambiguous about where the priorities lie. Marriage is entitled to the greater benefit for what can often be the greater sacrifice. - Yours, etc.,
