Madam- On the day that Frank McDonald's article on the new road barriers on the Ring of Kerry was published (Oct 31st) and before I read it, I happened to drive over from Derrynane to Waterville. When confronted by the road works, my heart sank.
What is being done is utterly unacceptable, and not just the concrete barrier. Great slashes are made on the hillside to accommodate an over-wide road.
Elsewhere on the Ring, road-widening is casually sweeping away the tree cover. What is needed is a review of the approach to road improvement.
