Sir,- Mr Thomas Downey (August 16th) refers to "the divorce and remarriage of Henry VIII". Henry never sought a divorce (in the modern sense of the word) from Katharine of Aragon. What he did seek (and failed to get from the Pope) was an annulment, on the ground that Katharine had been previously married to his brother Arthur. Yours, etc.,
