Sir, - I congratulate RTE on its recent documentary on the Irish Civil War. It is unfortunate that some inaccuracies in the programme have incensed some people, not least as we have seen here in these pages, with Eoin Neeson's article, and the letters that followed.
The programme itself may not have been what we had hoped for, but it has taken a vital step forward for historians across the country. While the few years that preceded the Civil War have been well documented in literally hundreds of volumes, the Civil War itself has up until recently been carefully sidestepped, in the fear that someone might be offended. It is high time that this story was written, argued out, and put where it belongs, in the history books. Let it stand there as a lesson for future generations, and not as a millstone weighing down the present. - Yours, etc.,
Prospect Hill, Galway.
