Sir, - The recent television program on the Civil War should have been entitled "The Madness from within RTE". Apart from the numerous factual inaccuracies and the clear bias against de Valera, there is the rather fundamental fact that no 60-minute television programme could ever hope to be a "full account and analysis" of the Civil War.
Perhaps Bryan Dobson and Colm Magee should look at the BBC's recent Provos documentary. Four separate one-hour programmes were screened in which views from both sides were shown in a clear and unbiased way.
RTE's madness has at least prompted a long-needed debate on our Civil War. Now all we need is a worthy documentary series that gives justice to the men and women who fought on both sides. - Yours, etc.,
Rose Hill, Wicklow.
