RTÉ's problem with Portlaoise

Madam, - Páid Ó Donnchú (August 28th) complains about the mispronunciation of "Tyrone" on RTÉ.

It is ironic that, while RTÉ broadcasters seem to have no difficulty sounding the final "e" in "Karlsruhe" (scene of our next football triumph?), they generally omit the corresponding sound in "Portlaoise" - the midlands correspondent being the worst offender. - Yours etc,
