Sir, - With reference to the letter from the Irish Writers Centre (December 22nd) regarding the safety of Iranian writers, the attention of your readers is drawn to the fact that the Iranian authorities, including heads of judiciary, legislature and government, have all condemned the recent disappearance and killing of some Iranian writers and vowed to bring the killers to justice.
The High Council of National Security has set up a special interdepartmental committee to investigate these killings. It is noteworthy that 140 members of the parliament have also signed a petition to the president expressing their concern about these deaths.
A full, impartial and independent investigation into these deaths has already begun. Its conclusion will be made available to the public in due course. - Yours, etc., Ali Jafari, Third Secretary, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran,
Dublin.
