Madam, - Norman Gamble's letter of August 15th is less than generous to the Haughey family who have, for over 30 years, contributed greatly and generously to the Malahide community and also the citizens of Fingal and Dublin.
Rev Gamble's statement that the Haughey family have participated in an act of betrayal to the people of Fingal and Dublin is not correct as is his suggestion that the Haughey family have been simply playing with caring for the environment.
The decision as to what changes will happen to Abbeville House and its surrounding land will be made by the new owners through planning applications to Fingal County Council and appeals (if any) to An Bord Pleanála. This process will allow any objections to be considered. Any possibility of re-zoning will be a matter for Fingal County Council and the Government in the context of the county development plan of the day.
I hope that Rev Gamble will reconsider and withdraw his comments which are hurtful not only to the Haughey family but also to at least one of his parishioners (myself).
His comments on the green belt and the future use of Abbeville lands should be directed to Fingal County Council and not at the Haughey family who continue to participate positively in our Malahide community. - Yours, etc.,
ERIC CRAMPTON, Biscayne, Malahide, Co Dublin.
