Sir, - David Noble's letter of November 20th has finally prompted me to write. Why does The Irish Times publish such obviously irritating and inane letters, written solely to get the author's name in the paper? "The Berlin Wall is down for 10 years now but the Kinsealy Wall stays up against all battering." This is what that great wit of our time wrote. Who cares?
There are a number of names which regularly appear in this section to astound us with their brilliance. Something that bores me - and I'm sure many others - is the "Is this a record?" type of letter: two people driving along the Merrion Road backwards; is this a record? Are they all failed comics?
It could be that this is also a non-letter and at least it might be the last one. If you've nothing interesting to say, don't say anything. - Yours, etc.,
Paul Twohig, Woodfield, Shanakiel, Cork.
