A chara, - As the biographer of Sean MacBride I am well used to seeing him mistakenly, or otherwise, blamed for many things. Your paper appears to have invested some resources in the case of the former Garda William Geary. In your issue of February 27th there is a fine article by Margaret Ward. Alongside it is a piece which states: "Allegedly, the local IRA wrote to the then chief-of-staff, Sean MacBride, asking permission to do Supt Geary severe harm. MacBride said he would forgo violence and take care of it in another way".
The above events refer to the year 1928. Sean MacBride did not become chief-of-staff for another eight years. - Yours, etc., Anthony Jordan,
