Madam, - Andrew Fifield's superbly written piece (Sport, November 24th) on the sale of the traditional homes of English soccer teams should be issued as required reading to every GAA county board that has toyed with the idea of selling its grounds located in a town centre.

The practice in recent years of boards being offered the carrot of big money for their prime location homes is one which has the potential to destroy communities.

And what would they get in return? Another bland facility which is accessible only by car and would more likely have an Ikea or Aldi conveniently located in the adjoining field? We cannot afford to go down the road of so many English soccer teams whose removal from the heart of these cities has resulted in the breaking of bonds between the club and the community.

I would rather stand in a crumbling old stadium that has some sense of history and meaning than sit in a bucket seat ten miles outside Navan with a developer's name above the entrance gates instead of that of Pairc Tailteann.
