Sir - I welcome the Minister for Sport's decision to initiate an inquiry into the Irish Amateur Swimming Association's handling of reports of sexual abuse by senior members. An inquiry is also promised regarding the North Western Health Board's response to the extreme physical and sexual abuse of members of the McColgan family.
However, when it comes to the Catholic Church's handling of allegations of sexual abuse made against a number of priests, the government's silence is deafening. Perhaps the media and the public are a little harsh in their criticisms of the Church's handling of various sexual abuse scandals. A little transparency around how it made decisions might allow us to judge!
- Yours, etc.,
