Madam, - Let us not forget, as we contemplate the very serious issues that affect our lives in the run-up to the election, that the Government continues to participate actively in an illegal war which has caused the slaughter of many innocent Iraqi citizens.
Shannon airport - or "Warport", as it has come to be known - continues to offer its hospitality to thousands of US troops heading to Iraq at the behest of the warmongering George W Bush and his comrade-in-arms, Tony Blair. Not only does the Government allow "special rendition" flights to land but it continues with its refusal to search these aircraft, thereby implicating Ireland in serious violations of international law.
It seems that Irish neutrality is of no significance to the Fianna Fáil/PD Government as the Taoiseach continues to cosy up to the neo-conservative coalition.
It behoves all of us to make the ending of Ireland's collusion with this illegal war an election issue on the doorstep. Surely the many thousands of Iraqi people slaughtered in this obscene and illegal war deserve at least this from the Irish people.- Yours, etc,
