Madam, – Conor Pope’s comment on heating oil prices that “South Dublin is where the dearest oil is being sold” (Home News, September 22nd) may create the impression that South Dublin oil prices are generally higher than elsewhere. The highest quote from an individual supplier may have been from a South Dublin distributor, but the same National Consumer Agency report states that average prices in south Dublin were almost exactly in line with the national average.
The highest average price was in Co Clare (Ennis) with the lowest average in Co Louth (Drogheda). The good citizens of south Dublin benefit from vigorous competition among oil suppliers and, in my experience, are well able to shop around. – Yours, etc,
