Sir - I am 23 years of age, female and a Roman Catholic. I have no particular feelings one way or other towards the Church. I am quite liberal in my views but see the ordination of Sinead O'Connor as a further obstacle in the course of women's liberation within the Church.
She is not doing anybody any favours by carrying on with this farce! Her performance on the Late Late Show showed that she was unwilling to explain or justify her ordination and its consequences in a calm and sane manner. In short, her performance was a joke and had me and those with me laughing in bemusement. As a young woman, who apparently should be grateful to "Mother Bernadette" for helping me, as she claims she is, I must say that Sinead O'Connor should admit that this ordination is really for herself and her publicity department. I think I preferred her when she was tearing up pictures of the Pope . That was publicity also, but at least she wasn't claiming it in the name of women. - Yours, etc., Catriona Carty,
