Sir, - I wish to express my annoyance and disbelief at the review by your correspondent, Aidan Twomey, of Sinead O'Connor's performance at the Point (Arts, September 8th).
To refer to Ms O'Connor as "a cross between a cartoon bear and a pre-Raphaelite maiden" is insulting to say the least. She was full of charm and poise, and had the audience eating from her hands. She gave a performance on the night which only someone with a long-standing dislike of the artist could describe as anything other than superb and inspiring.
I believe the "great mediocrity" lay not in Ms O'Connor's performance, but in the ability of Mr Twomey to be unbiased and independent in his reporting. Sorry, Mr Twomey, but on the night I'm afraid you certainly missed the Point! - Yours, etc.,
Bray, Co Wicklow.
