Madam, - As a large national organisation comprised of single women, we wish to strongly protest against the exorbitant supplement charged by the hotels for single rooms.
This organisation holds seminars, meetings and conferences throughout the country all the year round. People who have lived alone for a number of years value their space and are reluctant to share a room for many reasons.
Such a practice by hotels is blatant discrimination against 33 per cent of the population and in the long run appears to be false economy, as most people will shop around for a fairer deal.
Also, a word on behalf of the disabled. Many hotels built before the 1990s do not have ramps or disablement rooms on the ground floor. But the Irish Wheelchair Association tells us it has a list of hotels which provide these facilities. - Yours, etc,
