Madam, - Eileen Proctor (September 20th) is right about single-room supplements. Many of the 21,000 members of Active Retirement are delighted to avail themselves of the breaks offered by many hotels during their "off" season. Most of them live on pensions. Many live alone, often not through choice, and have become used to their own space. The fact that to go on holiday they have to either forfeit their own space or pay this supplement, is unacceptable.
I believe that the first hotel group to abolish this discriminatory charge will make a fortune. - Yours, etc,
EITHNE CAREY, National President, Active Retirement, Renmore Road, Galway.
