Madam, - ASH Ireland has noted some interesting comments about smoking in public transport on your Letters page.
We receive continual complaints about smoking on buses and on prohibited areas on trains. It is clear that CIE is not effectively implementing Government policy in this area.
Minister Brennan is making significant strides on other transport issues and we now ask him to turn his attention to protecting the rights of the 70 per cent of Irish adults who are non-smokers. These non-smoking passengers have a right to clean air - an issue which was addressed effectively by the airline industry some years ago. - Yours, etc.,
