Madam, – The recent claim in your letters page by the Coach Tourism Transport Council (Letters, July 9) that Dublin Airport has reduced the number of spaces for coaches from 16 to 12 is incorrect.
Since 2006, there have been 13 dedicated spaces for coaches in the coach park at Dublin Airport. The Dublin Airport Authority has invested €6 million to improve facilities for coach and bus passengers in recent years.
This investment has increased the number of minibus spaces by 80 per cent, increased the number of roadside spaces by 50 per cent, and almost trebled the number of layover spaces.
The suggestion that Dublin Airport does not adequately cater for coach traffic is not borne out by the facts. Dublin Airport has more than 400,000 scheduled bus departures per annum to almost every corner of Ireland and also facilitates significant private hire coach traffic.
In fact, almost one third of passengers travel to the airport by bus or by coach.– Yours, etc,
