Madam, - Being a mere student, I do not have the audacity to challenge Mr Myers's Irishman's Diary of July 26th on immigration policy. I do, however, object to his thoughtless - no, hurtful - use of the word undergraduate as a synonym for intellectual ineptidude or even sheer stupidity.
While I am aware that Mr Myers's opinion of students is not the highest (we're all misguided socialists or overpampered Mummy's boys), might I accuse him of intellectual laziness in his overuse of the u-word (twice on July 26th and not infrequently before this, my personal favourite being his cutting description of anti-war sentiment as "bleating undergraduate-Green argument")?
To simply label an argument "undergraduate" and then dismiss it is not proper debate. A little more imagination in your insults, please, Mr Myers. And we're not all spotty either. - Yours, etc,
NIAMH MULVEY,
Henry Street,
Galway.
