Madam, - Is it significant that it is "industry ministers" of the EU who decide the issue of the nature and experimental potential of human embryos? One might be forgiven for suspecting this to be an augury of the eventual commodification of an entity which is specifically, even if at its earliest stage potentially, a human being. This approach to what all agree is a complex moral conundrum, smacks for some of a brash utilitarianism; a world view which among other things denies any transcendent sources of values and implies that the end justifies the means. - Yours, etc.,
