Sir, - Dublin's masochistic motorists must surely be looking forward with glee to the introduction of the Stillorgan Quality (?) Bus Corridor. After all they are already enjoying the privilege of paying colossal rates of tax (VRT, excise duty, VAT, BIK) the vast bulk of which is not reinvested in our roads network. The mayhem that is sure to ensue can only add to fuel consumption, pollution and road rage, with three lanes now being reduced to one from Donnybrook.
To add to the fun, gardai sneakily await you on Saturdays (just past the Belfield Bridge) when for once you might actually get over 40 mph on a three-lane carriageway. For those with a sadistic streak, you will be able to gloat over the sullen faces of those waiting at bus-stops forlornly hoping that a passing bus might not already be full. Alternatively, you can ogle the pictures of your favourite politicians as the exhaust fumes from the car in front slowly fill your lungs. - Yours, etc.,
Michael Walsh, Westminster Road, Foxrock, Co Dublin.
