Sir, - Brian Alexander (September 10th) laments the fact that England's qualification for Euro 2000 is now in the hands of Sweden. He describes Sweden as a team of "medicore foreign players". This is a team which finished third in World Cup 1994 and whose players have seen services with the best clubs in England, Germany, Spain and Italy.
