Sir, - Has The Irish Times finally gone "tabloid"? Is there no end to the type of "in-your-face" photo-journalism of the gutter variety that we must now endure - even from The Irish Times? I refer specifically to the photo extracts from two new magazines, reviewed by Penelope Dening (Weekend, September 27th). Have all standards of decency gone out the window? Who wants to see this disgusting form of weightlifting displayed by a philosopher and martial arts expert? As for the second picture, much as I can appreciate the beauty of a pregnant woman, this photograph cannot surely be portraying high fashion, even though we are told that the model is wearing a designer outfit.
Am I alone in my opinion of this particularly offensive type of journalism? - Yours, etc.,
Anne Maher,
