Sir, - Writing about the unheated, uncleaned CIE Eurostar from Dublin to Rosslare, A. Reilly (November 26th) asks how much longer we will have to put up with a pathetic, prehistoric excuse for a public transport "service".
The writer is deluded if he or she believes that even a letter to The Irish Times will lead to a useful response from Iarnrod Eireann, much less a change in the quality of service. I travelled on what must have been the same train to Rosslare, and in my carriage there was frost on the inside of the windows, which were more like those of a dust-encrusted Nevada stagecoach than of a modern passenger train. With the benefit of years of experience of CIE and of its dismissive attitude to constructive complaints, I kept my thoughts to myself at the time.
I would suggest to A. Reilly that this is the best approach, as there is nothing to be gained from engaging in debate or discussion with this monopoly about its many shortcomings. The management of the monopoly is evidently aware that passengers are prepared to travel in goods carriages. - Yours, etc.,
C.P. Mac Cionna, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
