Sir, - I cannot let the onesided view expressed by your correspondent Eamon Timmins regarding the Arrow service (An Irishman's Diary, November 30th) go unchallenged.

Since the introduction of the Arrow service some years ago, I have been a regular user and since last March I have been a daily commuter. In all that time I can remember only two occasions when I experienced a serious delay and both these were caused by the breakdown of other trains. The service is very efficient, dependable and clean. Indeed, the new stock introduced in recent times is as comfortable as any modern car available on the market today.

Like all enterprises operated by humans the Arrow is subject to the occasional glitch. It is grossly unfair of Mr Timmins to give a negative and one-sided view based on a limited number of hiccups. If he really wants a lesson in efficiency I suggest he use his car.

May I take this opportunity to wish Irish Rail management every success with its passenger charter, which I am sure will enhance an already fine service. - Yours, etc.,
