Madam, - I found Mark Costigan's response (September 28th) to the suggestion in the Letters page that the Tánaiste sought to limit the kinds of questions she might have to field on the Late Late Show most peculiar.
In my view, actually "discussing" with the Late Late Show who "the interested parties" would be in the audience and what questions would be asked is an attempt to stage-manage the show and exercise control.
Such discussions could almost be described as a dress rehearsal; and the show, while giving the impression of "intelligent audience interaction", would be nothing of the sort.
Viewers of the Late Late can now be "assured of full professionalism in [ its] preparation", but should not mistake it for the "mature media forum" suggested by Mark Costigan. - Yours, etc,
