Madam, - At the beginning of the last century Tara was on the estate of Bellinter, owned by my family.
The British Israelites got the idea that the final resting place of the Ark of the Covenant was on Tara.
My grandfather, Gustavus Briscoe, wrongly as it turned out, gave them permission to excavate in their efforts to locate it. This excavation was rightfully contested by Arthur Griffiths, Maud Gonne and many of the powers that be at that time.
It undoubtedly was wrong then, and I would like to ask Bertie Ahern and Dick Roche why it should be right a hundred years later.
