Sir, - Vincent Kearns's points on the public transport system are well taken (December 3rd). However, it would be a shame if improvements in the bus and DART services were to go ahead and allow taxi drivers to continue their present behaviour. Can Mr Kearns explain why taxis bring the city's traffic to a halt whenever the introduction of more drivers, the loosening of the incredibly tight restrictions on their trade or advertising by their competitors is proposed? And what importance does he think that anyone waiting for hours in sub-zero temperatures attaches to the slogan, "if it doesn't have a roof sign, it's not a taxi"? - Yours, etc.
