A chara, - As a graduate of UCG I was recently asked about my alma mater to complete a questionnaire which involved, among other things, indicating my present salary level. As a teacher on the maximum point of the salary scale I was seriously dismayed to note that I slotted into the lower second tier of a seven-point scale while many of my fellow graduates and friends wallow in the comfort of the five higher echelons and probably benefit from profit sharing schemes to boot!
With such a poorly paying career is it any wonder that schools are finding it difficult to recruit teachers. What price a vocation? - Yours, etc.,
