Sir, - I refer to those unfortunate people who have just lost their jobs at Motorola and I have some suggestions:

Day 1: Half go in cars and block Dublin Airport. A quarter go to the Dail and a quarter stay in their offices making threatening phone calls to the management and staff of Celestica.

Day 2: All sit at their desks in a mood of envy and begrudgery, available for work but not until their redundancy notices are withdrawn.

Day 3: Phone their former teachers and see if they would like to swop places.

Day 4: Reassemble at the Dail for a sing-a-long led by members of the teachers' executive and a closing few words of up-lift from Ms O'Sullivan or Mr McCluskey concerning redundancy and performance-related pay.

In conclusion, can I say that the Department of Education confirms that no teacher in Ireland was made redundant last year and only two were dismissed. Perhaps the Government should put Motorola in charge of schools. - Yours, etc.,
