Teachers' pay dispute

Sir, - I am a sixth-year student at Muckross Park College, Donnybrook. I am becoming increasingly concerned about how far the pay dispute between the ASTI and the Government has been allowed to go.

While I agree it is time for teachers to get a pay increase, I am against the way they are going about it. I resent that the fact that this years Leaving Certificate students are being used as pawns in this dispute.

Any second-level teacher knows that the stress experienced by Leaving Cert Students can at times be unbearable. How a profession - whose members supposedly care - can add to this stress is, to me, inconceivable.

I think it is time for the ASTI to reconsider the path of action it is about to re-embark upon and think of how it will affect the future of the thousands of students sitting this year's Leaving Cert. - Yours, etc.,
