Madam, – The Department of Education (Home News, September 26th), conveniently neglected to mention that teachers in other countries get paid for work they do outside the classroom. In the UK for example, teachers are paid for five hours planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time.
In Ireland, teachers do this for free outside of their contracted hours. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – McCarthy and Thornhill may huff and puff, and perhaps with reason, but there is no blowing away of the solid fact that the net teaching time at both primary and second level schools in Ireland is above the OECD average (Home News, September 26th). Surely worthy of a headline. – Yours, etc,
