Madam, - In relation to the current concern about the lack of interest in science in Irish schools, experience as a secondary teacher has shown me that to make the subjects more appealing, they must be made more relevant to everyday technology.
Furthermore, students' enthusiasm is fired by examining the more esoteric aspects such as relativity, quantum mechanics etc.
However, we can only find time during class to do this if the most basic need, namely, the appointment of science technicians (as exists in virtually all second-level systems) is finally addressed here in Ireland. - Yours, etc,
