Sir, - When Kevin Myers runs out of material for his column, he attacks either the President of Ireland, the Angelus or the Irish language. This time it is the turn of the language. I don't know if Kevin Myers has ever visited Connemara; if he hasn't, he should do so immediately. I am sure he will get a big Cead Mile Failte, despite his aversion to the Irish language. The people who live there are very generous and the scenery is magnificent. I am sure he will agree that it is the ideal place for Telefis na Gaeilge. It is great to see such a resurgence of interests in the Irish language, with courses fully booked summer and winter.
The Irish language is still a living language in many places, and when I visited Carna in Connemara earlier this year I noticed the facility with which people switched from Irish to English. Carna seems to me a microcosm of what we might hope for some day on the rest of the island. - Yours, etc., Anna R. Quinn,
