Sir, - May I firstly express my outrage and utter disbelief at what has been the saddest day in my lifetime.
I also wanted to say how I felt proud and honoured to be Irish as I watched the interview on RTE News yesterday evening with President McAleese.
She spoke from the heart, and did a very good job of summing up what all the citizens of Ireland were feeling. She expressed the outrage, shock, disbelief, and sadness of a nation who are inextricably linked with the fine city that was, and hopefully will soon again be, New York.
This outpouring of emotion from our head of state came before we have started to count the staggering waste of human life in the US, not to mention the inevitable loss of Irish life.
I do hope that the President's words are broadcast in the US. I think it will give hope and comfort to not only the Irish community, but to all US citizens. - Yours, etc.,
