Sir, - As with the vast majority of your readers, I condemn any acts of terrorism, big or small. The attacks on the US have had a negative impact on us all world-wide.
However, regarding the extensive political and media-based coverage on this, a lot seem to be missing the most important result that we are looking for from whatever retaliation takes place. It is not that those responsible are brought to justice (though this would be desirable) or that revenge is got, but to do the utmost we can to insure that this type of atrocity does not happen again, in the US or anywhere.
If/when military action takes place against Afghanistan (or elsewhere), do you think that this will get those at fault thinking US/West style and change their ways or just increase the number of people over there who will be willing to perform terrorist attacks like this in the future, thus increasing the chance of the event recurring?
Unfortunately, I can't offer the solution, but perhaps some refocusing needs to be done by the people speaking for us. - Is mise,
