Sir, - Justin Keating certainly has valid points. I would like to add further aspects to this topic.
RTE is a commercial enterprise, funded by licence payers, tax payers and advertisers of products and services, etc. One major religious group in the State has had for some 70 years on radio and for 36 years on TV, free prime advertising time for two minutes twice daily on both mediums. Imagine the value of this space to advertisers: "the nicest tasting beer", "the best-built car", "the smoothest choc-bar" or "the whiter than white washing products". The Angelus is also a statement put forward to help convince people of the truth of the claim. It is not that I personally object to the Angelus spot, but I do feel the particular Church should compete for the space in this competitive commercial world. - Yours, etc., Harry Latham,
