Sir, - I wrote to this page some weeks ago to complain about a delay by the Office of Public Works in determining the fate of Drogheda's oldest Georgian building. A substantial amount of promised European funding to develop Barlow House as an arts resource was in immediate danger of being forfeited as a result of apparent indecision in the OPW.
Since some unknown factor conspired to delay publication of my letter until May 5th, I feel it is only fair to acknowledge that the OPW has acted in the meantime, declaring Barlow House "surplus to requirement". This opens the way for the building to be made over to the community for the proposed arts usage. I understand that the proposal is now receiving due attention and that a decision will soon be forthcoming. - Yours, etc., Declan Gorman
