Sir, - Some correspondents of recent weeks might perhaps, in offering advice to the British and Irish governments on the introduction of internment, have a look at both governments' most recent statements on the matter:
"The British government will make progress towards .. . the removal of emergency powers in Northern Ireland .. ."
"The Irish Government will initiate a wide-ranging review of the Offences Against the State Acts of 1939-85 with a view to both reform and dispensing with those elements no longer required as circumstances permit."
They will find these in the agreement signed on Good Friday.
