Sir, - No doubt one could argue, as many already have, for and against the political pros and cons, either inherent or hoped for, in the Belfast Agreement. But surely the situation in Northern Ireland cries out for more than either a rationalization of the possible gains or a passionate defence of the status quo. The memory of the anguished face of a young girl, five or six years old, frozen in fear as she helplessly watched yet another eruption of violence on a Northern Ireland street, one of numerous haunting images that linger in the mind's eye, evokes a response from the heart more than from the head.
I hope compassion will influence the vote on Friday. - Yours, etc., Mark Finnan,
