Sir, - Ian Cox's letter (August 18th) on the subject of the Battle of the Boyne - can be most charitably ascribed to political immaturity. I will focus on just one of a number of historical howlers.
He describers Irish Protestant troops "decimated" in 1641 subsequently getting involved in the Boyne conflict. In view of the interregnum of time involved this is analogous to veterans of Dunkirk re-grouping and getting stuck into ground operations in the Gulf War. - Yours, etc.,
Sraid Ui Bheanain, Luimneach.
