Madam, - While I am sure Irish people generally would heartily congratulate Greece on its remarkable win in the European soccer championship, I believe Manolis Andropoulos (July 8th) is mistaken in his suggestion that this good feeling extended to the festooning of the Youghal-New Ross route with blue-and-white Greek flags.
A pretty safe bet is that these were "white and blue" Waterford flags, flying to salute the magnificent achievements of that county's hurlers, who have electrified the championship so far this summer. How many of the teams in Portugal could have done with Dan Shanahan's aerial prowess and ruthless finishing? - Yours etc.,
MARTIN RYAN, Killoscully, Newport, Co Tipperary.
