Sir, - When we have a democracy with a fair and equitable distribution of the wealth of the nation, an end to hunger, poverty and homelessness, affordable housing, a universal health-care system, excellent primary and secondary education facilities for all, proper funding for physically and mentally handicapped people and their carers, reasonably adequate national public transport and no gridlock, an agricultural policy based on sustainable organic farming and a ban on all genetically engineered food production, an enlightened approach to waste disposal, a clean environment, generous funding for the arts, low unemployment and a thriving economy, not to mention an end to corruption in high office - in other words, a civilised modern state providing the quality of life that the people deserve - then we, the people, might consider approving the £60 million gift that the Taoiseach wants to give to the GAA. - Yours, etc.,
Myles Crowe, Old Brewery Lane, Clonakilty, Co Cork.
