Madam, - Jan Van Putten (Letters, April 1st) declares: "Jesus never called Himself Son of God and never expected He would die for our sins". Wrong on both counts.
Witness Matthew 27:43: "for He said, "I am the Son of God".' Next, Matthew 10.45: He "came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many".
Your correspondent denies the divinity of Jesus, lowering His status to that of "an extremely loving and caring holy man".
But either He was the Son of God or not. How could He be "holy" if His was a false claim? - Yours, etc.,
