Sir, - The South Dublin Chamber of Commerce is concerned that the further review of a possible underground section of LUAS in the city centre runs a serious risk of jeopardising EU funding for the entire project.
The loss will not only be to Dublin city centre but to the entire region as traffic gridlock develops. There is a serious danger of loss of jobs right across the region as a result.
Over the past 20 years transport proposals for the Dublin Region have been debated and gathered dust on shelves. DTI is the first integrated transport system to be implemented.
The chamber believes that the public inquiry on LUAS should proceed without further delay. The business community and the people of Dublin need and deserve an integrated traffic management system. The need to implement it now cannot be overemphasised. - Yours, etc.,
Tom Clarke, President,
South Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin 24.
