Sir, - Reading your film critic's review of The Fifth Province (Vision, September 10th), I realised I was one of the audience two years ago in Galway to whom was attributed an incestuous reaction on viewing it. I wish to place on record that I have never slept or cohabited with Frank Stapleton, the director, or Nina Fitzpatrick, the writer of the screenplay from which the film was adapted.
I do admit to having enjoyed the film disgracefully.
The Fifth Province is one of the few Irish films I have seen that dares to engage the intellect as much as the emotions. I admit it may be a little surreal for the illiterate.
