A chara, - I read with sadness the letter from John Waters (November 28th). He is a man I admire greatly in that he has been largely responsible for putting, and keeping, many important men's issues on the public agenda. For this he has been pilloried and abused.
I am of course very conscious of how women in our society have been mistreated, usually by men, though often by other women. Men and women are very different, but can be complementary to each other, particularly in unison. The women's movement has made great strides, yet much remains to be done there.
In today's society many men are marginalised and made very vulnerable in a variety of ways. Our culture finds it difficult to deal with this. But it has to be recognised and dealt with. The women's movement and the men's movement should be complementary. To live is to suffer. - Yours, etc.,
