Sir, - Would it be possible for Olive Hanly (December 8th) to ask the warm and welcoming people of Belfast to pass on their good manners to their elected unionist representatives? The image they constantly project is of boorish, dogmatic, ungracious, and insulting mien.
We in the South of Ireland are not alone in being in receipt of such ungracious and discourteous manners. We cringed at such a display of arrogant boorishness to Mr Clinton, when Mr Trimble was an invited guest of the White House. This was reported by your correspondent Conor O'Clery at the time. Messers Ken Maginnis and John Taylor are equally endowed with waspish insult, ever ready to humiliate and denigrate when the occasion arises.
So, Mrs Hanly should have a sweet word in the ears of Messrs Trimble, Taylor and Maginnis. God in His mercy be kind to Belfast, it needs it. - Is mise.,
